BEFT CPD Events

BEFT continuing professional development (CPD) events are for those who are new to EFT and those who have been practicing EFT for years. CPD events will spotlight the wide variety of talent we have across our BEFT communities with our EFT trainers, supervisors, and therapists all providing an in-depth opportunity to explore a clinical area of our EFT practice. Participants will learn more about their EFT work across individuals, couples/relationships, and families that will contribute to improving outcomes with clients. You will get a front row seat that will include presentations, observing therapy sessions, and practicing skills that you can take into your practice.

The CPD sessions will be an opportunity to grow your professional network along with your comfort with EFT across modalities. CPD workshops are designed to offer the latest in clinical knowledge with a focus on practical application that you can take into your own work. Join your EFT colleagues as we explore different aspects and different clinical areas of our EFT practices.

Working with Neurodiversity in EFT for couples with Sarah McConnell, EFT Trainer

Many couple therapists come into contact with couples where one or both partners have a diagnosed condition such as autism or ADHD, or where one or both are presenting with some of the characteristics of a neurodivergent brain but do not have a diagnosis.  Without some background knowledge of neurodiversity, therapists can often feel stuck as these clients brains and behaviour do not necessarily conform to a neurotypical pattern.  This workshop aims to:

  • Explore questions that are evoked when working with neurodivergent people in EFCT
  • Explore some of the features and signs that might indicate that we are working with undiagnosed neurodiversity in a couple
  • Learn to recognise how neurodiversity shows up in the couple’s dynamic and its impact on romantic relationships.
  • Recognise primary emotions often seen in couples impacted by neurodiversity.

1.30 pm – 4.30pm

EFT with Trauma-Trauma Partners with Sandra Taylor, EFT Trainer

When two partners have an unresolved trauma history sessions can be a challenge by both getting triggered suddenly and virtually simultaneously, especially in Stage one but also in Stage two. EFT offers a way forward – slowing down and slicing thin, seeing the richness in small moments and unpacking them; along with adjustments for working with these trauma-trauma partners : engaging very collaboratively with partners to get curious about their process, validating the desire to be present with each other and psychological education on what gets in the way when the trauma response takes over, working prepared for both clients to go over their window of tolerance and supporting them back.

I’ll share with you my work, including video clips, and you’ll have the opportunity to practise.

Seeding Secure Attachment with Couples: Bridging the Gap between Stage 1 and Stage 2 with Helene Igwebuike, EFT Trainer

Do you find yourself comfortable with Stage 1, tracking and reframing the negative cycle, but not so secure in knowing when and how to move your couples fluidly from Stage 1 to deeper Stage 2 change events? Starting from Stage 1, all the way through Stage 2, Seeding Attachment is key to planting the seeds of attachment security and bringing attachment fears and longings alive, steadily steering couples safely through uncharted attachment territory towards a more secure bond. Join me for a sounder grasp and experiential practice of this powerful but often under-used EFT intervention, through presentations, videos and role plays. You will learn to see, hear and use attachment to transform couple relationships.

As preparation, you can watch my pocast on We Heart Therapy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qs0wrBqTnAE&feature=youtu.be

Working with Emotion in EFT: Practicalities with Robert Allan, EFT Trainer

While we know with a model titled “emotionally focused” there is an understanding that – as Sue said, emotion is the music that guides the dance – emotion is our engine of change. Tuning into that music and understanding how that developed for each of our clients is the start to working with emotion in a way that helps us understand how to facilitate change across our work with individuals, couples/relationships, and families. The repeated research in EFT and other approaches that demonstrates depth of emotional experience as contributing positively to client outcome calls us to understand how to work with emotion at different stages and depths of our work.

In this workshop, we will explore how to understand and work with clients at different levels of emotional experiencing, what depth of emotional experience means in each stage of EFT, and how to better understand and therapeutically align with clients across various experiences that have suppressed emotional experience across their lives. We will explore how emotion is an ally in our work and can help people move towards coherence – secure attachment – within, with key relationships, and across varied lived experiences that may have included dealing with stigma. This interactive workshop will include presentation, video examples, and an opportunity to practice skills that can immediately be used with clients.
